The compact Nissan Leaf gets a brother with a contemporary SUV look. Three years after the study, the Japanese manufacturer is now launching the electric Ariya.
According to information from company circles, the prices should start at just under 50,000 euros. The SUV is to compete against competitors such as VW ID4, Ford Mustang Mach-E or Hyundai Ioniq5.
The 4.60-meter long SUV with a coupé-shaped roof line has a large, homely interior and details such as an electrically sliding center console or a drawer under the digital cockpit, which is also electrically operated.
Various battery and motor combos
The drive technology is closely related to the Renault Mégane E-Tech and comes in three configurations at Nissan:
The basic model drives with a 160 kW/218 hp electric motor on the front axle and a battery with 63 kWh, which should be enough for a good 400 kilometers. The same engine is also available with an 87 kWh battery and a range of around 500 kilometers.
In the top model, Nissan combines the large battery with a second motor and then comes with all-wheel drive to 290 kW/394 hp and a range of 460 kilometers.
More electric cars are already planned
It is charged with up to 130 kW, so that even the large battery can make the jump from 10 to 80 percent within 40 minutes. In addition to the Leaf and Ariya, Nissan plans to offer at least two other electric cars by the middle of the decade.
Namely the Townstar van based on the Renault Kangoo and a small off-road vehicle that is to inherit the Micra. If you add the hybrid variants, there will already be an electrified drive in every series by 2023.
